Why I run the dispatch desk myself

The dispatch desk is one phone

Every Boat Charter Dubrovnik booking goes through one device — my phone. The same number it’s been since 2015. +385 99 380 4156, WhatsApp-enabled.

Brokers will tell you that scaling means hiring a sales team. I disagree, on this scale. Nine boats, two senior captains in peak weeks, and a phone in my pocket isn’t an operation that needs a sales funnel. It needs one person reading every message, knowing the fleet calendar by heart, and replying inside the hour.

Why I won’t outsource the inbox

Three reasons:

1. The dock test. The captain who replies to your WhatsApp is the captain who’ll meet you at Marina Frapa. If I hand the inbox to a sales agent, that promise breaks.
2. The compliance file. I sign every contract under the obrt — Obrt Boat Charter Dubrovnik, vl. Marin Kovačević, OIB HR62847391005. The named operator on the licence has to be the person you book with.
3. The fleet knowledge. I bought every boat, I know the engine hours, I know which charter slots are realistic on a southerly wind. A sales desk can’t replicate that without months of onboarding I’m not interested in running.

What the inbox looks like in July

Peak weeks the inbox runs 30–50 messages a day. Most are quick: dock directions, payment confirmation, weather questions. The longer ones are multi-day yacht charter quotes (Lopud → Mljet → Korčula → Hvar → home, four days) and the proposal charters — Marin’s coordinated 6 to 8 sunset proposals every season since 2019.

I read every one of them. The reply might go out from a marina café, a dock at Šunj, or the helm of the Cap Camarat 9.0 between Cavtat and the airport — but it goes out from me.

What this means for you

Two things, practically:

• Reply inside an hour during 08:00–20:00 CET. Outside those hours, first thing the next morning. WhatsApp is fastest.
• No “your inquiry has been forwarded to our charter team.” There is no team. There’s me, two senior captains in peak season, and a fleet of nine boats.

The catchphrase

The compliance file is open. Booking through this site is booking through the named operator on the licence — not a broker, not an agent, not a desk that sub-contracts to whoever has a free hull.
